Updates on InciWeb confirm that the Fern Lake Fire in Rocky Mountain National Park raced 3 miles in 35 minutes early today, bringing the total burn area to 3,584 acres. Firefighters so far have kept the fire within the borders of the park, but smoke in the area is heavy, especially in the evening. Gusty winds kept air support on the ground all day. Both the Fall River and Beaver Meadows entrances to the park remain closed.
Fingers crossed tightly here. The fire burned over many of my old footprints today …

You know this is driving me crazy. Been keeping an eye on it
I think of you every day when I’m reading about it. I was beside myself last night when the wind was howling around my chimney and I knew 70 mph winds were predicted for Estes overnight.
