Until a reader reminded me, I’d completely forgotten that Memorial Day weekend is the traditional opening of Rocky Mountain National Park’s Trail Ridge Road. Our heavy snows this winter did not delay the opening as I’d feared. The announcement appears on the National Park Service website and includes the caution that spring melting and freezing nighttime temperatures may still close the road at times.
The Alpine Visitor Center, gift shop, and coffee shop near the road’s high point will be open for business soon. Its webcam has been cleared and is now operational. The screenshot above is from this evening. Click it to see the current view.
Here’s a park service photo of the crew working to clear snow from the visitor center (those are its roof timbers sticking out of the snow):

Crikey !!! 😐
Good grief! O_o

Laughing too hard at the consensus of the three comments above to reply to them individually. 😆
Love your new theme!!
I can’t seem to find some aerial shots and/or video of the mudslide. Do you know of any? It’s so massive would love to see the aerials.
Oh, found some! It helped when I searched for “mudslide” rather than “landslide.” Duh…
You beat me to it!
🙂
Thanks!

There are two videos of the slide here and another one here.
Thanks! The Post is one that I did find.
Good. I think its photos give the best idea of how big the slide was.
