From outside the Houston metropolitan area, my view is that traffic congestion creates a need for roadway improvements, which inspires promoters to build concentrated neighborhoods further from town, which creates greater urban traffic, which creates a need for extended roadway improvements, which creates… and so on, and so on…

   1. Yep, you nailed it. That’s exactly what’s happening in the Denver metro. That and further disruption of older inner city neighborhoods because the interstates through the middle of town now need to be widened. It’s an endless cycle … that construction companies and developers love.

3. Funny…Actually roundabouts would help.

   1. In some areas, maybe. But you can’t use them on expressways that are geared for high speed traffic (not that they’re very high speed during rush hour). In addition, a lot of people, including yours truly, don’t understand how multi-lane roundabouts are supposed to work. Why would anyone ever use the inner lane when they’ll have to cut back to the outer lane to exit the roundabout?
