Fall foliage photos are a dime a dozen in Colorado, but this one really caught my eye. I’ve tried for years to describe a brief walk I once took near Estes Park, and have always failed. This picture comes very close to what I remember.
On a warm sunny day I wandered down a narrow trail through a grove of golden aspen. It was a surreal. The ground was gold, the trees hugged me with gold and formed a golden vault above. The air itself glittered gold with falling leaves. Gold in every direction. Unforgettable.

that is so pretty
It’s not at all like the beautiful multicolored foliage back east, but it’s spectacular in its own way.
Autumn certainly rushes in, in Colorado, by the look of things. Strictly speaking, it only started a couple of days ago,when the sun decided it was time to come back up to the Southern Hemisphere.
Love that picture especially when I did what you suggested. It’s quite dramatic in it’s way.
I’m only just now noticing how it differs from my experience. Here the lighting is flat. No shadows, dull sky. The day I remember was sunny, backlighting the foliage so that it almost glowed in its translucency, with bright blue patches of sky. There simply aren’t words to describe it.
Yes, they said the foliage turned early this year because of the drought and heat. The weatherman said fall officially arrived earlier this evening (it’s almost 9 pm now). The leaves kind of jumped the gun.

There something magical about being in those woods. But then, you know all about that.
That is a gorgeous golden sight! Fall in the Midwest always a favorite of mine with maples red and rusts, but a few aspens mixed in would have been superb.
I do love maples. Beautiful at any time of year, but I don’t see many of them here. I grew up with a huge old maple in the backyard and I miss them.
Sometimes it is just too golden to be real.
