More unusual cardinals

    1. I would love to have seen that. Hard to imagine, but I’m thinking pretty spectacular. If he could sing like a male and perform like a male, I don’t imagine he had any trouble attracting the ladies.

    1. Oh I’m so jealous! They are so rare here as to be virtually nonexistent. I’ve been here 20 years and have never seen one. Even when I lived where they are common, I never saw any but normal coloring.

Interesting that you have a pair. I wonder if they were actually attracted to each other because of their unusual coloring. I was about to say maybe plumage color has nothing to do with it, but then, why are males in many species more brightly colored?
