Yes, I actually chuckled at the originality of this cartoon. But that doesn’t change the fact that I am mad as hell at Congress for putting politics above a months-ovedue Covid relief bill. Selfish, thoughtless, unfeeling, privileged, utterly heartless “representatives of the people” — the people who have lost or are losing their businesses, their jobs, their homes, even their lives. How can Congress have in its power the means to help so many people within days, and yet let months pass without doing anything!?
Even now, if they do finally pass the bill, it won’t be out of concern, or generosity, or the desire to do the right thing. Certainly not. It will be because they want to go home for the holidays — just like everybody else.
I honestly wonder how they they can sleep at night.
Sadly many of them sleep just fine, all they care about is raw power and if they destroy America is just fine in the process, the less well off are just not important
Talk about fiddling while Rome burns. It’s both infuriating and heartbreaking.
I actually remember an innocent time, it was the 1940’s and ’50’s, when all us kids thought Congress people were all patriots, motivated by love of country. Some actually were, I believe, because of the world war. The sycophantic nature of the Trump-led GOP majority now stands revealed in all its ugliness for the world to see. It has become a Jonesville-like cult of self-interest. The really depressing thing is that 40% of the country is trapped in it.
I honestly wonder if we’ll ever get back to a time when Congress works in a cooperative bipartisan way for the good of the country. I’m pretty sure it actually worked that way, once upon a time. Biden is a good man, but I doubt he can do much to elicit more cooperation in Congress. The GOP will be working their tails off to obstruct his every move.
