- New York Attorney General Letitia James has announced a massive fraud lawsuit with a number of very serious charges against Donald Trump, his executive team, and some of his family members.
- Federal Judge Raymond Dearie, appointed as Special Master in the case of secret government documents taken to Mar-a-Lago, has “showed skepticism of Trump’s arguments about how the review should proceed, while stressing a desire to move quickly.”
- Lawyers for the Venezuelan immigrants flown to Martha’s Vineyard amid lies and misrepresentations have filed a class action suit against Florida Gov. DeSantis for directing this despicable political stunt.
The wheels of justice turn slowly, but grind exceedingly fine.

Not rude at all. Our system is very convoluted and that can make it very slow. Unfortunately, it’s also become very politicized. Or maybe it always was and I’ve only recently become aware.

johnthecook…as long as the MSM keeps focusing on Donald Trump and his family, Hunter Biden has nothing to worry about. My own thoughts on Donald Trump are: if he is that guilty and dirty from his political escapades as POTUS, he would have been jailed long before now Something is just not right. The Democrats can’t be that inept or that stupid.
Sadly, Republican votes helped him avoid conviction during his two impeachments or he’d now be forbidden to run again. Someone as crooked and sick as he is was never imagined by those writing the laws about the powers of the president. In this case the Dems aren’t inept or stupid; they just don’t have the votes. What’s really appalling is that Republicans don’t seem to realize or won’t admit what a really sick, pathetic man he is. But the show’s not over; he may yet pay for his transgressions.

johnthecook…it seems to me that the Republican Party has their standard of “morals, and the Democratic Party has their standard of morals. What are they founded on and who is right and who is wrong? They both can be right! Look no further than the 1828 Edition of Noah Websters Dictionary of The English Language. Look up the word moral. READ definition #1. It is fairly self-explanatory, written pretty much on an 8th grade reading level. Remember that Our U.S. Constitution, Declaration of Independence, and Bill of Rights closely follows or mirrors these definitions. Our Founding Fathers were no dummies!

So… anything goes if your particular God says stoning to death women improperly dressed and homosexuals is good rather than evil.
The separation of church and state means religion should not enter into legislation, politics, or government. Religion, not science, is the basis for the far right’s anti-abortion stance, and a democracy — our democracy — does not impose religious views on the entire US population. (Actually, this week, doing something like that sounds more like Iran.)
As for that old dictionary that you’ve cited so often, word meanings evolve and change over time and as interesting as 1828 definitions might be, I would not rely on them in the 21st Century.

John, you are entitled to your religious beliefs, just as everyone else in the US in entitled to theirs. However, you (and those who share your beliefs) are not entitled to pass laws requiring that everyone adhere to your beliefs. Religious beliefs belong in one’s home, heart, and place of worship. They do not belong in our public spaces and most definitely not in our laws.

“Weasel” being the operative word. I was raised to never say I “hate” someone, but with him I’m willing to make an exception. “Despise” also works.
I wish Letitia James all the luck in the world. But this is a prefect contrast between American v. Canadian scandals. You have a former President who assaulted dozens of women, stole billions from his followers, and refuses to concede an election. We have a current Prime Minister who, during a break from the Queen’s funeral, got caught singing Bohemian Rhapsody with some friends over wine. Conservatives in this country are, of course, calling for an apology. For something.
I fear we’ve wandered into quicksand and are sinking deeper by the minute. I do often look to Canada to remind myself what civility and normalcy look like.

I get that Trump brazenly inflated his assets to leverage bigger loans and did the opposite to minimize his taxes, but it puzzles me why the banks and the IRS did not catch it. If you were a bank officer about to loan him millions of dollars, wouldn’t you at least do a rough check of the square footage the loan was based on? Trump claimed at one point that he was constantly being audited by the IRS, which was why he couldn’t release his tax returns. Who were the agents doing that and were they blind? So many questions.
I thought it odd that he could inflate the size of his apartment to 3 or 4 times its actual size. Wouldn’t the city have have some kind of records of the actual size? Certainly my city knows about every square foot of my property, based, I think, on information from the original builder. As for the claims of being constantly audited, I assumed that was just an excuse to avoid having to release his tax returns. But who knows how they do things in NY. I’m assuming and hoping that finally, after three years of investigation, these charges are accurate and will stick!
