Man’s best friend — in this case, Ruby — and a quick-thinking Michigan State trooper rescue Ruby’s owner who had fallen through the ice. Kudos all around!! Video from Michigan State Police.
Update: The trooper involved was Motor Carrier Officer Kammeron Bennetts. Ruby’s owner, 65 years old, was in the freezing water for approximately 16 minutes before being rescued, taken to a hospital for treatment, and released.
Joyful. Every aspect delightful. Good, practical policeman; good, clever dog; good result.

I love a good dog story. But by now you probably know that. I’m a little desperate for uplifting stories these days.
(I’d have never thought to have the dog take the rescue thingy out to her master.)
Helping|saving people ain’t your thing. For all we know, this good policeman has done something along these lines before. And do you actually know what the rescue thing IS ? You do alright.
Oh it’s very likely the officer has done other ice rescues, especially as far north as Michigan. They aren’t that uncommon even here in Colorado, where local law enforcement and rescue personnel practice them all the time. But I do think having the struggling man’s dog come and get the rescue float and take it back out to her master is likely very uncommon. The orange thing appears to be just a float, something easily seen, small but substantial enough to throw (with a rope attached) to a victim, and easy to hang onto.
