I was on the road that day in October 1995, heading across the Texas panhandle, when the verdict came on the radio. O.J. Simpson had been acquitted of murdering Nicole Simpson and Ron Goldman.

It all came back to me this morning when I heard that Simpson had died. Cancer, said CNN, as they droned on and on with Simpson’s story.
No doubt you’ll remember his attorney’s defense: “If it doesn’t fit, you must acquit,” referring to the bloody gloves found at the scene. Well, they didn’t fit and he was acquitted
Have you ever had a fine pair of leather gloves that got wet? I have. Beautiful, expensive kid gloves soaked in the rain. And when they finally dried, they were stiff as a board and a size or two smaller. Wet leather shrinks when it dries. (I thought that was common knowledge.) I was able to knead them back to softness, but was never able to wear them again.
In court, O.J.’s. gloves didn’t fit. They’d been soaked in blood, then dried. Furthermore, he was trying to put them on over latex gloves. Of course they didn’t fit.
Simpson was guilty.

I’ve always thought that the prosecutors in that case did a horrible job.
All I remember is they didn’t catch the gloves thing. Terrible oversight.
It was like a TV script – and I would’ve thought it really poorly written, had it been one.
Yep. Definitely poorly written … and poorly acted.
there were so many things that slid by the prosecution. I remember I was in my advertising office on that day and we all gathered in the conference room to watch the verdict live. when the verdict was read there were gasps. and then silence.
You can’t get much more alone than driving across the Texas panhandle … before cell phones. I really felt isolated at that moment.
