Grandma vs. the Alien: Chapter 2.2

The Alien

[To begin this story at the beginning, click here.]

As I noted in my last post about the Alien, it left the premises yesterday
morning on a pretty red and blue FedEx truck. My enthusiasm for the entire purchase has waned considerably, although I really do need to replace the five-year-old machine. I just have a really sinking feeling about the turnaround time on the repairs.

Monday night I settled in to resume my very fun game, and poof, the old Dell had decided to give up the ghost. The fans woosh to life, the processor light blinks, the keyboard and mouse light up, the monitor comes on, and then — nothing. Just the sound of the fan.

I might have imagined it, but I think I heard a faint Bronx cheer and saw the ghost of a raised middle finger.

LOL. That’s exactly what I said. I have no idea how that happened. Every computer I own has turned against me!!

  2. Perhaps “they” don’t want you to have a computer! Perhaps you’ve riled “them” up just a bit too much! :)

Oh yeah. It definitely smacks of conspiracy now!

  3. Oh golly gee. This is why laptops are always a good backup plan. I know a place where you can get a refurbed laptop for very little. If you want the link, let me know.

    Good luck!

If it weren’t for this lil laptop, I’d be tearing my hair out. I’m so addicted to having Internet access, it’s pathetic. But thanks for the offer. :) (The game in question is not going to run on this laptop, though. Not even close.)

  4. I’ve always viewed laptops as the sports cars of the computer world; sleek, sexy, expensive and prone to breaking down at the drop of a hat.

Trust me, this laptop is no sports car. It’s a very minimal, basic model, just enough to let me blog, do email, read the Internet, etc., while I’m watching TV. Anything more has to go on the real computer.

  5. Sorry about your game hiatus, that has to suck. I’d lend you mine if you were nearby. Does that help?

Oh, yes, it does. Thank you for the kind thoughts. :)
