President Bush yesterday accused critics of the Iraq war of trying to “rewrite history.” Oh puh-LEEZ!
Mr. Bush is overstating a bit, and this time he’s sounding more than a little defensive. Perhaps we should cut him some slack and allow that he simply misused the language, as he is wont to do. But that would cast even more doubt on his ability to say what he means and brings to mind all those assertions of his that led us into war in the first place.
Our president is beginning to resemble a cornered animal, lashing out mindlessly at anyone who comes too close. Or maybe a better analogy would be the drowning man who clutches at anything for support. Neither image inspires confidence.
I heard, from someone who attended the Veterans Day speech, that he was surprised at how few Tobyhanna Army Depot employees even attended, and that there were a lot of empty seats at the gathering.
