K-mart and Sears win dubious award

It’s got to be a new record!

You know the record I’m talking about — the one for the earliest mention of Christmas by a retailer.

The prize goes to K-mart/Sears for their ad today — August 22 — on the Animal Planet channel. Something about it never being too soon to start saving for Christmas. It included a nice, bright red Christmas Club card.

Groan.

Nothing else to say. Just wanted to note the apparent winner of this year’s stampede to crass Christmas commercialism and marketing gimmicks.

  1. Augh! There should be some kind of peer-pressure societal law mandating that we all shun stores who mention Christmas before Thanksgiving.
