I have to laugh at Republicans who are questioning the legality of the Medicaid deal Sen. Ben Nelson got for his state of Nebraska. Ten of them, apparently all attorneys-general in their states, are questioning the constitutionality of Nelson’s deal.
Considering that every bill going through Congress contains some kind of pork, and every state, at one time or another, gets some of that pork, it’s ludicrous to think Nelson’s pork is anything new or different. If it should turn out to be illegal, however, Washington lawmaking as we know it will come to a screeching halt. Which would be hilarious, in a calamitous sort of way.
It also might be the best thing that could possibly happen to clean up that cesspool called Congress.
I wouldn’t put the “double standard” past Congress, though. They may find this deal unconsitutional, and then just not think about the subject anymore as if the usual pork isn’t the same thing.
Here’s to trying to regain my natural optimism…
___________
Well, of course it’s only unconstitutional pork when the other guy get gets it.
Optimism? Umm, sure. Whatever. Here’s to a better new year!
