WordPress gives us a lot of widgets to play with, and I thought I’d tried or looked into most of them at one time or another. But it seems I didn’t know it all after all. Surprise! So maybe this will be news to someone else, too.
There’s a widget called Blog Subscription. It allows folks to subscribe to your blog via email; that is, they’ll get an email notification every time you publish a new post. For some reason I was thinking it was just a way to register addresses for me to manually send emails to.
Pleasant surprise: I don’t have to lift a finger. The visitor clicks to subscribe; thereafter, WordPress automatically sends them the emails. Sweet. I’ve added it to my sidebar, fyi. Personally, I’ve found it useful for keeping up with a couple of blogs that I enjoy but that don’t have new posts very often. This way I know about their new posts, but don’t have to clutter a reader, a blogroll, or anything else with their listing. Of course, if you care enough to subscribe my blog, I’d also love to be in your reader, your blogroll, your thoughts, even your dreams. 😉
