Conspiracy theorists will have fun with this story. It seems in one Denver neighborhood, the garage door openers on 40 different homes in a half-mile area have been disabled by some sort of radio signal. The homes were all built by the same builder and all have the same type of opener.
So far no one has figured out where the mysterious signal is coming from, but the door opener company is expected to arrive tomorrow to track down the source. Experts say anything with a strong enough wireless signal could be causing the interference.
Presumably the rogue signal is unintentional, coming from a nearby home. Or it could be prank. Or it could be …

Note, Dec. 15: Just came across this report from five years ago. The neighborhood affected above should be too far from Colorado Springs for this to be a problem, but maybe the Air Force has been running some kind of tests or drills over Denver this week. Hmm … I’d be royally pissed if I had to pay $250 for a new garage door opener because of something the Air Force decided to do. The AF, with our tax money, should have to pay for it.
LOL… sorry, but I cannot help but find this humorous. It’ll be interesting to find out what is causing this.
My guess is somebody did something weird with their Christmas lights display. Or something else Christmas related, an early gift perhaps.
We had a strangely similar event that eventually was explained. Our garage door would mystically open… or close … or both seemingly without explanation. Conspiracy theories abounded. Until my human discovered that my fondness for laying in the front seat of his “topless” Jeep was accompanied by my paws stepping on the remote he left attached to the console.

PT, this resonates with my own experience. My father is a radio amateur wireless operator. A few years ago his hobby caused untold problems when his next door neighbours bought touch-sensitive laps – you know, the ones which don’t need a switch, you just touch them and they respond. Dad gets up early to transmit, and his signals were turning the neighbour’s bedside lamps on in the small hours! Caused a right rumpus!
Maybe some amateur has boosted his signal a little….
That’s hilarious! I imagine it took a while to figure out what was going on and why. I still haven’t heard if they figured out what was going on in the above neighborhood.
