Stop SOPA Twitter picHelp spread the word and voice your opposition to SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act) and PIPA (Protect IP Act). If you use Twitter, you can go to BlackoutSOPA.org, change your Twitter pic to a Stop SOPA badge (your choice of three designs), and let your followers know how you feel. Come on, people. Big Money may have the power in Washington, but we have the power on the Internet (for now, at least).

In addition, there is a great movement afoot to make the Internet go dark on January 18th. If enough people participate, that should send quite a message. Imagine, an Internet strike. Major providers and websites (along with us little people) unavailable for an entire day. Sign up and join in at SOPAstrike.com. Urge the largest sites to go dark and add your site to the growing list of those that will shut down on the 18th. (For those of us on WordPress, I’m thinking the best way to do this is to make your site private for the day.)

Meantime, I assume you’ve all contacted your Washington representatives about this. Several times. You have, haven’t you? If not, go to either Congress.org or OpenCongress.org and get busy. It’s easy. You have no excuse. Move it! While you still have an Internet to use.

Note: Better than privatizing, use a simple widget to blackout your WP blog.

  1. Okay tell me how you got the Stop SOPA on your WordPress gravatar? I already have it for Twitter but think it’s even more powerful for your WordPress icon. Did you just save it to your computer and then upload it?

    1. Yep, that’s exactly what I did. One of the pages for setting it up on Twitter included a place to download it and save it on your computer. Then all you have to do is go to your Gravatar page and upload it. It will get seen a lot more as my Gravatar than it ever will on Twitter. I enlarged it a bit and uploaded it to be my Facebook pic as well.
