This beautiful photograph is titled “Glow.” It’s by Breckenridge, Colo., photographer Nate Zeman, whose work I’ve featured in the past and reprinted with his permission.
Chimney Peak (aka Chimney Rock), the tower at the left end of this ridge, is in the Uncompahgre National Forest in southwestern Colorado. The “block” anchoring the right end is Courthouse Mountain.
Zeman mentions this was shot on an October evening, so I’m guessing 2013. I’ve never visited this part of the state but have long wanted to see Ouray, Telluride, Durango, and Mesa Verde. It takes the better part of a day just to get down there from Denver — and that’s without any sightseeing. So a multi-day trip might be in order. After all, fall is in the air.

It is, isn’t it. I’m so lucky there are some great photographers in Colorado to show me what I can’t see for myself.
You need to go – those are wonderful places to wander….beauty hard to imagine is actually real. He’s one great photographer. (Like you say, if you can’t be there, he provides some lovely windows to gaze through)
I can’t get over the forest. Those slopes look completely untouched by pine beetles. And the alpenglow … well, you just have to be in the right place at the right time.

Hi PT– This is just Beautiful! Have read biography of Chief Ouray & Chipeta, so should get back there, too. Too remote for webcams, darn it. There was a brief rainbow this evening as i got to OKC… simply no comparison to Nate’s gorgeous shot😉 (You should work out a grand tour of your state. First by photos, then figure out how to make it happen. Maybe your son??)

It’s called “Colorful Colorado” (both literally and figuratively) for a reason. I’ve always thought the thin dry air at altitude contributes to the vivid colors we see. Or maybe it’s just the lack of pollution.
