Ball handling, wasp style
These photos are from a series by Malaysian photographer Lim Choo. In them, wasps appear to be blowing bubbles or playing baseball, or something similar. However, they are actually gathering drops of water from their nest and flicking them away with their forelegs. The nests, of course, are of a paperlike material that would soften and disintegrate if they stayed wet. Such activity is said to be common among insects in moist climates.
The story and more photos appear on weather.com, always a great source for nature photography and stories.
