Hmm …

    1. This cartoon and quote were the first I heard about Judge Stevens’ (or anybody’s) suggestion to repeal the Second Amendment. The quote sure got me thinking.

    1. As fiercely divided as the nation is right now, I hate to think what a repeal effort might provoke.

Are you referencing police shootings of unarmed individuals? And if so, are you suggesting a legally armed citizen should shoot back? Offhand I can’t think of other examples of “government employees indiscriminately murdering unarmed citizens.”

  1. With many caveats, yes and yes.

Agents of most alphabet soup acronyms are carrying fully automatic rifles into crowded venues.
    Which is stupid. Incredibly stupid.

Unarmed citizens are being gunned down on their own property. But, people who legally carry have no right to murder… including LEO’s.

    1. The latest incident that I’ve heard of was the man who was in his yard carrying only a cellphone. It was a tragic mistake by police (and not the first time). But had he been armed, the result would have been the same.

More stupid than uniformed agents carrying automatic rifles into crowds would be civilians in those crowds carrying automatic weapons.

Agreed. Only criminals (who ignore laws) and LEO’s (who ignore good sense) would do such a thing.

      2. Well, you see, that’s the problem. Plenty of law abiding citizens own automatic or semi-automatic weapons but lack the good sense to store, carry, or use them properly.

      3. That’s an oxymoron. Law abiding people don’t do those things. And… very VERY few people jump through the time and money hoops required to buy an obsolete automatic weapon.

      4. They’re law abiding until they decide not to be, for any number of different reasons, and shoot someone.

Automatic and semi-automatic weapons are obsolete?

      5. Modern AUTOMATIC weapons are illegal.

Under the NFA, it is illegal for any private civilian to own any fully automatic weapons manufactured after May 19, 1986. Only certain types of FFL/SOTs may make them, and then only for purchase by qualified state and federal agencies. There are no exceptions. According to the ATF’s official handbook on NFA laws and regulations, it’s not even legal to make new replacement parts for pre-1986 machine guns: “There is no exception allowing for the lawful production, transfer, possession, or use of a post-May 18, 1986 machinegun receiver as a replacement receiver on a weapon produced prior to May 19, 1986.”

    1. And more so every day. Which shouldn’t be surprising, when you think about ti. Sci-fi writers take present-day knowledge and imagine where it might take us in the future. Figures some of them would get it right. After all, that’s pretty much the way scientists and researchers operate.

... and that's my two cents
