  1. I tried to, yesterday. Today I THINK I’ve managed one in your latest, so I’ll have another bash here ..
Who remembers when Congress was a body of people of two parties but one responsibility – to do their best for the people they represent ..?

    1. I think it’s just an attempt to force more action on closing the border. The two issues are not and should not be linked, but Congress does that all the time. To me it’s unthinkable to withdraw support from Ukraine now, in the middle of that war, after helping them for almost two years.

      1. I often wonder when I hear these policy proclamations like “close the border” and “get our country back” what exactly they mean. I used to live right at the border in California (Imperial Beach, California), and I knew people who lived in Tiajuana who worked in the US, and we crossed the border to shop in Mexico quite often. My SIL had her hair done there. I’m pretty sure that some of my fellow HS students actually lived across the border. Are they advocating an absolute closure of the border or are they trying to regulate immigration; those are two different things in my mind. I get a sense that they are going for catchy big rally phrases, but there isn’t any solid policy behind the big ideas.

      2. I get the impression that when Republicans say close the border they mean no crossing whatsoever. Absolute closure. As with a solid wall. I don’t know about the daily back-and-forth like you describe, since that doesn’t include immigrants from farther south who come here wanting to stay. But I’d agree with anyone who says we need better, tighter controls on immigration. The unregulated tidal wave of undocumented immigrants we’re seeing now is equivalent to no border at all, IMHO. Immigration laws need to be addressed, changed or updated as needed, and enforced. But since the two parties can’t seem to agree on what to do or even what needs to be done (surprise, surprise), I’ve little hope anything will get done.

Go ahead, you can say it ...
