Yeah, no

  1. Popcorn in hand, I am waiting for the cold rain of reality to rain on the Trump parade. Still, other aspects of his agenda are interesting. There is no doubt in my mind that since WW II the world has gotten used to U.S. paternalism. USAID is a good example. Was it doing good and necessary work? Absolutely. Was that good work taken for granted? Undoubtedly. Similarly, Europe took full economic advantage of our military superiority and leadership over communism and let their own military budgets shrink. Can they now reverse that attitude in time to rescue Ukraine?

I’m just a guy who only gets to register an official opinion every two years but I’m fascinated by the historical panoply of economics and foreign affairs unfolding before my eyes. Excuse me while I order more popcorn.

    1. Trouble is, if and when it finally rains, we’re all going to get soaked. I’m embarrassed to be represented on the world stage by a man who breaks promises of aid to a nation fighting for its survival against invading Russians (not the other way around). Not to mention his numerous other shortcomings. I have a serious case of Trump Derangement Syndrome, I’ll admit.

    1. Well, I skimmed through that. Thanks for the link.) And it makes me glad I didn’t watch. Sounds like it was everything I expected/feared. Plus a dismal showing from Dems that I had not anticipated.

  2. I do not and cannot understand the Dems, Colorado.
What in the name of all the gods do they think they’re DOING ?
Why do they never organize themselves into rallies, parades, shouting groups – bloody ANYTHING to show the world they have some street cred ?!
Unhappily, it’s the same all over: some pack of bastards hold power and the other lot are pathetic and pusillanimous.
Oh – your actual post ? – I could no more watch that total arsehole lying his face off with that pair of brownnoses behind him than fly.

    1. I have the same questions. What the hell are my two Democratic senators doing!? Or for that matter, any of the Democrats in Congress. I do have a lot of respect for Senator Bennet but It’s been utter silence since virtually all of Trump’s cabinet nominees were confirmed. A bunch of paddles being waved at Trump’s speech. Yeah, that’ll show him. Nu

      1. Your senators may be feeling about the Trump situation what I’m feeling, which is dismay and powerlessness. The swing of the politics pendulum is obvious. Political promises and optimism clash with reality regularly. The only time we can actually do anything ourselves is voting time, and that’s two years away.

Letters to our representatives in Washington have never meant less than they do now because of the internet, the media and polls. I find myself looking forward to seeing the madness fail, and fail spectacularly, not because I really want that result but because I believe it is inevitable and the only way we can return to governmental sanity.

        1. James Carville seems to think Trump’s government is already collapsing and will have collapsed in the next 30 days. Sounds like something I’d like to see … and the recent cabinet meeting does indicate some dissention developing there. I’d be rooting for the collapse … but I’ve no idea what would come next or how it would happen. Still, what we’ve seen in the last 6 weeks or so is beyond unnerving. I think neither Trump nor Musk is playing with a full deck anymore, if they ever were.

  3. johnthecook…The way I see it, if Biden and Harris were doing the “job’ the majority of the voters expected of them, we would not be in the mess we are currently in. Even the “Electoral College did not approve what Biden and Harris were doing. What were the voters supposed to do? Re-elect them for a second term and hope for the best? I don’t think so!

Go ahead, you can say it ...
