A Brit describes Trump

    1. I know I’m suffering with something really, really serious. Doctors don’t know how to treat it. Sorry if it spread across the pond. Didn’t mean to infect anyone else.

  1. Knew you’d really like it: it’s so beautifully written and read !
Listen, my dear Colorado: THE WHOLE WORLD loathes Trump, just as do more than half your compatriots. Don’t lose sight of that …

    1. I just keep telling myself that every person Trump and Musk fire is another vote against them … if we ever get to vote again. I do very much appreciate your encouragement!

    1. It’s strangely calming and reassuring to hear that very authoritative voice call out every single flaw. Or a lot of them, anyway. Like a judge solemnly listing the crimes of which he’s been found guilty.

  2. It is so hard to believe that this is happening, but here we are. I have heard so many theories about why things have gone this way… I’ve heard that some of his following is just projecting onto him what they want to believe he will do, and now they are shocked that he is really doing some of the things that they believed was just rhetoric. Some of this is linked to him legitimizing meanness and hate. I think a lot of it is naked spite of the “own the libs” variety that led people to ignore reality. There is a saying that goes “cutting off your nose to spite your face” and we are there. What a sad, sad time for America. I’m sorry, world.

    1. I apologized to the world the day he was elected. But it’s already worse than I’d feared. I’m convinced he has some form of dementia, given his erratic thought processes, his erratic speech (calling it his “weave” is just a pathetic cover-up), his nonsensical texts, etc. It’s the sort of decline that gets worse with age. Scary thought. And all that’s in addition to being an admitted womanizer, a twice-impeached president, and a convicted felon. Musk doesn’t strike me as entirely normal either. I’m not sure how much of it is attributable to his Asperger’s but his behavior at times is strange.

I hate to think where we’ll be four years from now, or a lot sooner than that. But what can be done? Impeach and convict Trump, remove him from office, and then what? JD Vance becomes president. He’s a lot younger and just as mean-spirited, probably making him even more dangerous.

I weep for the thousands of people losing their jobs, their careers, so suddenly, unexpectedly, and undeservedly. What they and their families are going through is heartbreaking and so very unfair …

And that’s just the domestic scene.

      1. There is no doubt in my mind that things are getting worse by the day. The ripple out effects of what is being done in such an abrupt manner will continue to manifest in the months to come. Hugs to all of us!

I told a friend today that a lot of the actions that are being taken by this administration leave us open to terrorist attacks originating in the Middle East. She was like… what? I had to unpack it a little. Stopping USAID leave people in refugee camps hungry at the same time that they are being displaced from their homeland so Trump can develop their land into a resort (complete with golden Trump statue). There are open threats and now bombings directed towards Muslin groups and nations. The CIA and FBI are being dismantled. The federal inspectors and TSA agents are being fired (?) or undermined. What could go wrong? Her eyes just got bigger and bigger as I talked. She voted for Trump and she needs her SS, Medicaid and Medicare to survive. I didn’t mention any of that, but she is one of the people who are at real risk of falling through the safety net. What a horrible decision those voters made…

        1. Our national defense and intelligence organizations have been or are being decimated. All that overseas aid you mentioned has been discontinued. All that along with the stupid tariffs have gone a long way toward alienating all our former friends and allies worldwide. Not to mention what Trump did to Zelensky and Ukraine. At the least our allies are casting a wary eye. How can your friend have been so oblivious to what’s been happening? Did she think a vote for Trump meant everything would be peachy keen forevermore?

Lucky me. Gabe Evans (R) is my new representative in Congress and he’s voted the party line, threatening SS and Medicare. They aren’t critical to my survival but they do help a lot.

          1. One of the biggest issues with autoimmune disease is getting that dang diagnosis. I suspected that something significant was wrong before I was diagnosed and signed up for all the health insurance I could, so I have Medicare with Kaiser supplemental insurance that is the equivalent of Medicare parts A-D with the addition of Kaiser. The drugs that I take to control my disease are pretty darn expensive: at one point it was 16K a month. (Okay, I was pretty outraged as a taxpayer that Medicare wasn’t allowed to negotiate for a lower price like other providers like, say, King Soopers do, but that is another conversation…) If they start to screw around with Medicare it could be critical to my survival. I’m also a little cranked about possible implications in new medications coming to market as I have been hanging on waiting for a new drug to treat my lung disease that was fast-tracked over a year ago. That is now in limbo.

My Congressman, Jason Crow, was just on MSNBC. Yay! So proud of how he is stepping up and speaking out.

I think that the international implications will continue to spiral out of control as this administration continues to align with Moscow.

        2. You were really on the ball to sign up for that insurance before you were officially diagnosed! I don’t think I’d have thought to do that. I’m not nearly as dependent on Medicare as you are, but I would certainly miss it if it got reduced or eliminated. And these days, who knows? We have a king, not a president, and he’s definitely not the sharpest crayon in the box.

I’m so jealous of your being in Jason Crow’s district. (In case you missed it, see
“The Democratic Party’s New Recruiter Has a Theory”
MR sent it to me or I’d have missed it.

Have you thought about writing to Crow about your situation? Can’t hurt, might help. Maybe give him another bit of ammo.

          1. I have found Jason Crow to be very responsive, but there are so many fires to put out at this moment that I feel that I’m just one little drop in the bucket. I want to tear my hair out about the study that is going to be to done to connect vaccinations to autism… there is no doubt in my find that the conclusion is already determined and it will now be a “witch hunt” to look for something to support the foregone conclusion. It’s like the DOGE dismantling of the government… they are cutting the agencies and firing people while hunting for something that they can wave around ad fraud and waste” to justify the actions. Breathtaking dishonesty and gaslighting while ignoring all norms and laws.

It’s so bad it is almost freeing. I’ve stopped wearing my mask in public.

        3. I thought the same thing when I heard about the new study on vaccinations and autism. Not fooling anybody re the whys and wherefores. I remain horrified that of all the people in this country, RFK Jr. was appointed to that post.

I know Jason Crow has been very busy. Seems like every time I turn on the tv, he’s on there. Reassuring to see him waging the good fight, but I don’t think much will change before the midterms. I’m hopeful then that all the demonstrations we’ve been seeing will turn into Democratic votes. I’m encouraged too by the one judge who’s keeping a close eye on Trump’s actions while, at the same time, fearing that he has no way whatsoever of enforcing his rulings. If the judge persists, Trump will appeal it to SCOTUS, which has already declared that the president is immune from prosecution for anything he does as president.

And now Signalgate. The nightmare continues.

Take care of yourself, and keep your head down!

  3. An accurate description of our leader. I agree, this says something very disturbing about the half of Americans who voted for him because he was always very open about what he intended to do in a second term. ” . . . even his flaws have flaws.”

    1. And his intentions aside, it was still obvious what kind of person he was long before he was elected. A businessman with many failures and several (6) bankruptcies, who cheated and stiffed contractors, an admitted womanizer and misogynist, the birther episode, the refusal to release his tax records, the felony convictions, the charges against him that haven’t reached a jury yet …

Yes, it’s incredibly disturbing to think that half of the American electorate voted for a man like that. And heartbreaking to see my two grandchildren entering their adulthood in Trump’s world …
