Indeed, free them. Nothing can justify what happened to them and their suffering is unimaginable.
Partisanship is often generational. What prospect is there that the children of Gaza will grow up to advocate peace and compromise after two years of deprivation and famine? Unfortunately, they are more likely to advocate more terrorism and kidnapping. Torture too. Japan and Germany became moral nations after WWII, so there is hope, but at this point hope is all there is. Anything can happen.
What’s been done to the peaceful people of Gaza in the last two years is unspeakable and, in my mind, utterly unjustifiable. I don’t know what will happen to the children, what they will think and feel in the years to come, but Israel’s near-genocidal actions are not likely to have created a new generation of friendly Palestinians.
Certainly a thoughtful piece. It highlights the intransigence on both sides which may keep the conflict, on one level or another, going on indefinitely. I certainly don’t have any answers; I’ve always been a “live and let live” person, but in the Middle East, they just can’t seem to resist poking at each other.
johnthecook…It is extremely difficult to “live and let live” when you are being relentlessly hunted down and killed just because of your ancestry. That is what the Jewish people in Israel are dealing with.
“Live and let live” means I’ll leave you alone as long as you leave me alone. Both sides have to abide by it or obviously it won’t work. So far, neither side has been willing to leave the other alone. (But then, it’s my personal modus operandi; can’t speak for others)

I hope part of the deal is immediately rushing in as much food and medical aid as possible.
