Do I think Donald Trump cares about peace between Israel and Hamas? Not for a second. All Trump wants out of this is another line on his Nobel Peace Prize resume. Conveniently, it also lets Israel’s Prime Minister Netanyahu claim the victory over Hamas that he’s pursued via the slaughter of, according to Reuters, more than 67,000 Palestinian civilians in the last two years. (Genocide? What genocide?)
In addition, this is a big first step toward Trump’s plan to turn Gaza into the “Riviera of the Middle East,” an objective he announced back in February. It involves removing the remaining 2.2 million Palestinians from Gaza. Permanently. However one does that. Once they’re gone, he can redevelop Gaza into whatever he wants. Netanyahu won’t object. As long as Hamas is gone, he’ll be happy.
Trump’s on tv right now, explaining all this. I turned the tv off rather than listen to him. (Thirty Forty minutes later he’s still talking … but then, he has the full attention of dozens — nay, hundreds — of media personnel, and he so loves being the center of attention.)
Okay, I’ll stop. Mom always said, “If you can’t say something nice about someone, don’t say anything at all.” She’d already be really put out with me.

(Shame on me for not having the strength to not post this.)

feeling the same
Good to know. Thx.
I think Trump is succeeding where past presidents have failed because he is capricious, impulsive and unpredictable. He scares even Hamas. Scares me too.
He certainly scares me. Don’t know from one minute to the next what he’s going to say or do, and no matter how stupid or awful it is, NOBODY is stepping up to stop him. A few judges now and then rule against him but he just ignores them.
Yes, your cynical. I’m cynical too about this one. He only cares for himself.
History says he’s always been selfish and self-centered. But now we can add drunk with unbridled power and increasingly unhinged with age and developing dementia. Definitely scary.
By golly, it was delightful when rumpT missed out – as we all noo he would. I mean, are the people who administer the various Nobel Prizes complete maroons ? (My husband much preferred that version of ‘morons’.) No, they ain’t. Quod scripsi scripsi.
I wasn’t concerned about this year because the cut-off date for consideration was back in February. But assuming this latest peace deal in the Middle East holds (which is not at all certain), he might be a contender next year. I was encouraged by a PBS article several weeks ago which said, among other things, “Experts say the Norwegian Nobel Committee typically focuses on the durability of peace, the promotion of international fraternity and the quiet work of institutions that strengthen those goals. Trump’s own record might even work against him, they said, citing his apparent disdain for multilateral institutions and his disregard for global climate change concerns.”
So there you go, mate: and honestly, were they to award the swine thusly, it would degrade the prize for evermore !
Yep, I agree
johnthecook…the Political outcome /resolution concerning the GAZA territory in Israel has Biblical consequences. Solving that problem is like shoveling water against the tide. In due time the water will win because dams to hold the water back will fail! History has proven that to be true.
Oh, I agree. Israel won’t stay out of Gaza and the West Bank any more than the Arab nations will stop trying to get rid of Israel.
