I call ICEing

    1. I don’t know about quotas per city or state, but yes, ICE was given an overall (unofficial?) quota for the US as a whole. I remember Trump, at some point, said he was going to remove X number of illegal immigrants from the US, and he’s focusing that effort on blue states and cities. He’s mentioned/exaggerated/lied enough about Aurora, CO, a Denver suburb, that I wouldn’t be surprised to see Minneapolis-style tactics there any day. Yes, comparisons with Nazis are widespread and, I think, not unwarranted.

  1. I believe these quotas (which vary sometimes) are merely to frighten. Even the stupidest person cannot really expect any number at all, especially now that the populace is wising up and refusing to open their doors stating they have a gun and will shoot trespassers.

    1. Yes, but if ICE agents believe they are expected to meet those quotas, they will certainly try. That’s their job. And as the quotas get bigger, it becomes more likely that more innocents will be swept up and tactics will get harsher. ICE escalates, the public reacts to ICE tactics, ICE reacts to that, etc. … and that’s where we are. Hundreds, perhaps thousands, of civilians in Minneapolis are not hiding at home. They are in the streets, following and recording ICE agents, shouting, blowing whistles, throwing things, demonstrating in every way they can. ICE is reacting with confrontation and intimidation, arrests, flash bangs, pepper balls, tear gas, etc. It’s getting very ugly and very dangerous.

      1. johnthecook…the source of my information, VCY America heard on 88.3 FM in Phoenix, AZ is reporting that the arrests that ICE has been making are targeting ILLEGAL Immigrants with FELONY convictions with some that have multiple conviction, that were allowed into The United States illegally. How is that even possible? They also reported that Minneapolis Government Officials in have released back on the streets more than 400 of these types of Criminals. WHY?? Why isn’t MSM reporting this. Do you want these types of people in your neighborhood?

        1. I do not consider VCY (Voice of Christian Youth) to be a mainstream news source with the resources that MSM have to research and report. (AP, Reuters, BBC, NPR, The Guardian, and The New York Times generally make the top 10 in lists of most reputable, unbiased news sources.)

But that said, I’ve no objection to ICE arresting illegal immigrants with felony convictions (but not law-abiding, legal immigrants). I feel sure that Minneapolis government officials have no authority to release prisoners detained by ICE. They aren’t even allowed to participate in ICE investigations. But there are ample reports of ICE detaining people for no reason other than that they look foreign, and very often without legal arrest warrants. Not to mention having shot and killed an innocent white American woman, shooting several other people, and detaining and/or roughing up American citizens.

No, of course I don’t want convicted felons in my neighborhood or anyone else’s neighborhood. But I think ICE has become little more than Trump’s goon squad, using overly aggressive, legally questionable tactics to meet Trump’s quotas and get rid of immigrants that Trump doesn’t like.

  2. And to think that back on the 13th I intended this post to be funny, laughing at ICE, relieving a bit of tension. Maybe a lot of readers didn’t know that “icing” is a penalty call in hockey. Or that YakTrax are like mini crampons that you attach to your boots to keep from slipping on ice and snow.

Or maybe it’s just that no one considers ICE a laughing matter.

  3. johnthecook…THANK YOU for the levity you expressed on the 13th. As a cook and baker, icing to me is that sweet goo or topping you put on your pastry that make it soooooo much better to eat and enjoy. ICE in the political world that is used as an acronym is no laughing matter. BTW, have you ever dropped a cube of ice down someone’s backside on a hot summer day? That can be funny!

  4. Well, I spelled it “ICEing” for a reason but evidently that just confused things. Yep, I love icing on my pastry, but in moderation. I want to eat pastry with a bit of icing, not the other way around. I don’t recall ever doing that ice cube thing, but there’s no telling how many pranks like that I’ve completely forgotten. With four siblings, anything was possible.
