Back in December I wrote about the Manitou Incline near Colorado Springs. I was prompted by having read that “Beast,” the man who runs backwards down the steps at Red Rocks, also runs at the Incline (although, I imagine, not backwards).
Problem was, I got sidetracked by the Incline itself and never got back to writing about Beast. I’d found some interesting information about him on Facebook that I wanted to share. And then I lost the links to that information.
Reluctantly, I’ve reactivated my old Facebook account to look for the info I found back then. There are several Facebook pages dedicated to the Incline, and I suspect the info I found may be on one of them:
The Manitou Incline (Official Group)
Manitou Incline Hike Group
The Official Manitou Incline Group
Top of the Manitou Incline
As I recall, ultra runner Slavinski Bruskinovitch (at least I found his full name!) aka Slavic aka Beast lives in Boulder and is often seen running trails (and who knows what else) in the area, while also finding time to occasionally train at Red Rocks and the Incline. He speaks to most everyone he encounters and seems to be well liked by all.
At the Incline he sometimes works out with friends:
I found another video of him working out at Red Rocks (sorry I couldn’t figure out how to embed it). Be sure to activate the sound. (It takes a second for the microphone to appear in the lower right corner.)
The spectacular Manitou Incline, a mere .88 mile. Now if only someone would give me a ride to the top …

johnthecook…how far away is this from Colorado Springs?
Google says 26 miles by car (did it think you might walk?)
Are you using a new login address or new computer? I’m trying to sort out some login problems.
Where’s the escalator? That’s only way you’re getting me on that.
Now there’s an idea!
Remember the comic panel, “Ripley’s Believe It or Not”? If it were still a thing, the Beast would surely make it.
Yep, any video of him in action would be a worthy addition. Google tells me the brand is still operating, one way or another, worldwide. The videos surely deserve a place somewhere in that franchise.
that’s insane, I would fall on the first step down going either way! wow. and yes, the view at the top is magic –
When I wrote the first post, sources said only “up” was allowed, and mentioned the obvious danger to knees, etc., going down. But stuff I saw today seemed to indicate either direction is okay as long as those going down step aside for those going up. Me, I’d like a ride to the top and then time to sit and enjoy the view.
