  1. The statistical nature of reality is increasingly apparent, not only in quantum physics but in the vagaries of daily life. One can affect the odds of calamity by one’s choices, but as Dr. Heisenberg discovered, we can never attain certainty. Flying in an airplane is much safer than driving a car among distracted drivers. Driving on an Interstate highway is safer than on blue highways. Maintaining low cholesterol and triglycerides reduces the likelihood of a heart attack. But who would have thought going to the movies might result in what happened in Aurora? What could we have done? Renewing the ban on assault rifles might have reduced the carnage, IMO.
