Took my laptop to the Apple store Wednesday and it was quite the experience. Practically SRO when I walked in. What is this? A special sale? No, I was told, normal for the store. About half the people appeared to be blue-shirted Apple employees. Had a great conversation with the young man at the Genius Bar; he was stunned to learn a pudgy gray-haired woman was an avid gamer. Apparently young men still don’t fully appreciate that their mothers and grandmothers can be gamers, too. Anyway, long story short, the display on the computer was dead. For a couple of hundred dollars I’ll get a new display, new fans, and new everything else showing any wear. Basically a complete overhaul and recondition with 90-day warranty. Seemed a good deal so the computer was shipped off to the hospital and I’ll get it back in a week or so. Thumbs up to the Apple folks; I’m a happy camper so far.
(Screens know no age) Glad the prognosis is good!
Ooh, I’m jealous. The nearest Apple store to me is 100 miles down the pike in Tulsa. Many’s the time I’ve wanted to get some advice, not to mention purchase my desktop. Yet somehow I continue to muddle through. I bought a maintenance contract for my iPad and called them several times since – outstanding every time. Apple does treat customers right. 🙂
They said part of the reason for the crowd was only 6 stores in all of Colorado, and this one being the only one serving north Denver.
Wow. Only with an Apple would someone consider “a couple of hundred dollars” to be a worthwhile expenditure for repairs as opposed to the biggest chunk of the price of brand new. I am glad you’ll have it back up and running soon…
All I had to do was think what a brand new top-of-the-line (which the current computer was four years ago) Mac would cost and it was an easy decision.
It takes a special person who can see past the gray hair. 🙂 (Don’t get me started!)
I’ve always gotten a kick out of the reaction of people my son’s age or younger who seem surprised that the gray hair camouflages someone whose interests are very much like their own. Or maybe I’m just really weird …

LOL. That may be true of me. (I’m much too dependent on my computer for just about everything.) I’ve had to back off on always having the latest and greatest, but I am hopelessly addicted to having at least the good and reliable. My rationale is that it’s what I do instead of traveling, eating out, going to movies, etc. (I am the queen of rationalizing!)
Oh, good! If you are happy with this, then I am very happy for you. Macs are very nice. LOL… I dug out my Ubuntu (Linux) laptop today and was playing with it. Ubuntu looks not unlike a Mac operating system.
Well, I’ll be happy if I get another year of use from it. If it croaks before then, I may not be so happy.
It sounds like you’ll get more than one more year out of it.
