Today is Veterans Day. Not tomorrow, the day you probably have off from work. Today. November 11, 2012. Originally known as Armistice Day, it was to remember the moment the World War I armistice between the Allies and Germany went into effect — at the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month. November 11, 1918, was to mark the end of the “war to end all wars.” Unfortunately, as we all know, American soldiers have continued to fight and die in one war after another. The price of freedom is high.
I saw a report recently about a young Marine who was severely wounded in Iraq or Afghanistan, and who is still in uniform and giving motivational speeches. I was impressed by something he said, which I’ll have to paraphrase: “If you didn’t serve, serve someone who did.” Or at the very least, respect and honor them.
Thank you, veterans, for your service and sacrifice. Thank you for ensuring the many freedoms we all enjoy today and every day.

What an awesome tribute. Well done!
I’m afraid the fact that today is the actual, historical Veteran’s Day completely slipped my mind PT, and the truth didn’t dawn on me until I saw the president speaking on the news right after I published today’s post. But even if I had realized it, I certain I couldn’t have come up with a more fitting tribute. Beautifully done PT!
Thanks, Mak. It’s the very least I could do for you and all the other veterans out there.
