Okay, so I’m making this a dog day. (Can’t let Elvis steal all the thunder.) Exactly one year ago today, I brought Charlie home. And he’s been nothing less than perfect ever since. Well, almost. He doesn’t know how to play fetch. He’ll chase after anything I throw, but doesn’t bring it back. Close, sometimes, but not all the way. It’s my fault for not trying a little harder. After all, he eats like a horse Lab. Seriously. Even with a slow-feeder bowl, he snarfs down breakfast before I can pour a cup of coffee. With a food drive like that, a 2-calorie training treat should elicit nothing short of levitation.
Using the best guesses of the veterinarians involved, he unofficially turned 4 on November 1. And weighs 70 pounds. So he’s on a bit of a diet right now (I’m shooting for 65-68.) I refuse to be the owner of a fat dog. He weighed approximately 57 pounds when I got him, but he’d been on the street for a while before he was picked up in Texas and ultimately got to me.
He’s watching me as I write:

The featured image at the top is the way I’m greeted every morning. If I don’t acknowledge this stare in a few minutes, I’ll get two paws and a wet nose in my face.
Uh oh, he’s making a liar out of me …

so cute!!
He’s heard there’s a sucker born every minute and he knows I’m it.
The ‘Like’ thingy isn’t working, Colorado: it just keeps saying “loading”. Pfuh !
Charlie – I WILL get to remember how to spell his name – is a Lab: Labs eat everything they can: if you were to manage to reduce his weight it would cost you a shitload of angst and would last about a month. But still, I know it’s important, so I wish you luck !!
Yes, I’ve already reported the “Like” problem to WordPress and am waiting for help. It worked fine until I posted this. It does look like people are posting Likes on the Reader, if you ever look at that.
My vet is on board with the weight loss thing, and we aren’t shooting for much, so I’m hopeful. No plans to change the current regimen, so maybe I’ll get lucky and he’ll drop a few pounds and then maintain.
That’s one great looking dog! Lucky you.
and it looks like the like button broke today for a lot of WP sites.
Yep, I feel very lucky to have him.
Oh, Like button broke for a lot of people? Sorry to hear it, but it does make me feel a bit better. No wonder WP hasn’t gotten back to me yet.
Actually, based on what I just encountered on another blog, I think WP maybe broke the Like button while adding to comment boxes the ability to stylize entries — bold, ital, and a couple of other things. We shall see.
It looks like it might be fixed this morning. A couple of blogs that didn’t have a like button over the weekend, have them back.
Awwwwww….what a lovey! You’re a good mommy.
Well, I try. He deserves the best.
He is handsome, 10/10 a good boy ❤️
I agree. But I might be a wee bit biased. 😉
Our ‘Clementine’ likes to fetch but not return also. She is intelligent enough to learn it, but not interested in sharing what’s retrieved. 😀
I’m convinced Charlie could learn almost anything … if I weren’t too lazy to teach him. It’s my fault, not his. Give Clementine a pat for me. And a polite “woof” from Charlie.
