Michelle Obama spoke today at a rally in Kalamazoo, Michigan. The rally was for Kamala Harris but I was riveted by Michelle’s speech. I choked up more than once as she spoke on behalf of America’s women and the rights we lost with the Dobbs decision. She spoke eloquently about what we — women and men — will face if Trump is re-elected. More than anyone else so far, she detailed the importance of health care for women — accessible, complete, unfettered health care, directed by physicians, not politicians.
She was speaking for all women, for all Americans, and certainly for me, the proud daughter of an ob-gyn who was revered and beloved by his patients and the entire community.
The true republic:
men, their rights, and nothing more;
women, their rights, and nothing less.

I felt sorry for Kamala having to speak after her.
Kamala and Tim are going to be here in Ann Arbor tomorrow and I’m planning to go see them
Oh you lucky dog!! I’m jealous!
hoping I get in-
I hope so too! Fingers crossed
She’s a star for sure!
Yep, I’ve always thought so.
I want Michelle as president.
Wouldn’t that be wonderful!
This is going to be an interesting election. If last election was anything to go by , the same madman with trumped up nonsense will rally his troops and try for another insurrection if things don’t go his way. It’s tough and sad to look at humans living in a different reality create and build up a monster… so, with all the powerful and nice words , hope the electorate chooses sanity.
“Interesting” is a gross understatement. My anxiety level is through the roof. So much at stake. We’re still dealing with the fallout from the last election that Trump lost. I can’t even imagine what might happen if he loses again.
But you’re praying for that fallout, eh, Colorado ???
Not a chance. I want to see Trump beaten so badly that he’ll never be heard from again. Except as a defendant in court.
Dream on …
Be happy with a win of any size.
Oh I will be. For sure. But history tells us Trump and his followers will not be gracious losers. I worry a lot about what could happen after election day.
I watched that speech… so great! Michelle is so effective as a speaker. I’m still steaming today after the comment about by Trump about “I’m going to do it whether the women like it or not” referring to protection. The outrage is in layers!!! Give women equal rights and opportunities, and they will take care of themselves!
I also worry a lot about what could happen after election day. He will claim victory prematurely, refuse to concede, activate violence, you name it. He is not well.
She’s a great speaker. Smart as a whip. And class. So much class, even as she shreds the opposition. “They” have certainly been going low, and true to form, she went high.
I’m with Andrew, above. She’d be a fabulous president. But like so many of the nation’s best, she knows how dirty politics can be and wants no part of it. I do wish she and Barack has stayed more involved, but I don’t blame them in the least for distancing themselves.
I read her book “The Light We Carry” while I was really sick with autoimmune pneumonia and going through a lung biopsy that went badly, and then the treatment that was almost as bad as the illness. Her book meant so much to me, and every time I hear her speak, she really speaks to my heart. Seriously, I wanted to send her an emotional support chicken when she talked about the loss of her mother. She is the best of America, for sure.
She’s certainly an outstanding combination of intelligence, compassion, and common sense.
