Believe it or not, I’m still playing video games. I suppose that should be singular because I really only play one these days — Red Dead Online. I’ve mentioned it in the past and, with some intermissions for other games (eg, Starfield, Assassin’s Creed Mirage), I’m still playing it. Almost every day. And I’m still playing my red-headed female character:

I’m up to level 480 or thereabouts. The game stops rewarding one’s progress after level 100, but I keep playing just because it’s fun and relaxing (and not interrupted by breaking news, political ads, or premature Christmas commercials).

I should note I’m not the only gaming grandma. There’s at least one other, Shirley Curry in Ohio, seven years my senior, who until recently actually shared her live play of Skyrim on YouTube. Amazing. She’s even in Wikipedia and was featured in the New York Times.
But you won’t find me doing that. Putting my gaming on YouTube, that is. It would be like having people peering over my shoulder all the time. It’s enough for me that my gaming once earned me the appellation “kickass grandma” from my grandson, now a US Marine. Oorah!

Good for you, PT. I played Halo for a few years but when my machine broke I ended it.
I tried Halo briefly. Never really got into it. But I spent a lot of time in several versions of Battlefield (fun playing with son and grandson). I’ve been playing on Xbox for many years. So much more comfortable than a chair and a PC.
Good for you. You’re right about not putting it YouTube. You should live stream on Twitch — that’s where the hardcore gamers are … 🙂
I watched a friend play on Twitch for awhile, in a game I was also playing at the time, but I never felt I was good enough to want an audience (although I did consider it) especially not back when some guys were so abusive to female gamers.
Wow, and I thought I was doing well playing Flight Simulator on the Xbox. Well done, you. 🙂
Hey, thanks Trev. I just figured the youngsters shouldn’t get to have all the fun. I started gaming (EverQuest) with my son when he went off to college and I was hooked. It was a fun way to stay in touch.
It certainly is great fun. You’re rightoo, why should the kids have all the fun. I love flying my TBM 930 and can go virtually anywhere in the world from the comfort of my couch. 🙂
I’ve always been fascinated by planes and flying. Have occasionally thought about trying Flight Simulator, but so far earth-based games have had more appeal.
Very impressive.
At least it keeps the old brain cells working 🙂
Good to hear you have something to escape the reality s*it-show.
I never got into gaming, but I know many people make it a regular part of their lives (including my doctor).
It’s certainly the easiest, cheapest, safest way to escape the insanity.
Look at you go! I was a huge Jax and Daxter player, and then Ratchet and Clank. Now my hands are too bad, but that looks like a beautiful game!
I though Far Cry 5, set in Montana, was beautiful. But this is the best by far. So realistic, beautiful, immersive. I’ll probably be gaming until either my eyes or my fingers give out.
Horizon is a beautiful game too.
With a name like that it ought to be. But I don’t think I’ve come across it.
