It’s probably good that I missed the hearing this morning featuring HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. In his own sick way, he’s almost as dangerous as Trump. It will just take a little longer for quack medicine and a lack of vaccinations to destroy us. Had I actually watched the entire 3-hour hearing, the neighbors likely would have reported a screaming woman next door. As it is, I still have steam coming out of my ears.
Sure, I can get my covid and flu shots this fall; I’m elderly old. But what about children and healthy adults who can’t or won’t get their usual vaccinations? Not just covid, but the routine childhood vaccinations like MMR and DTP that have been used for decades. I can’t think of a better disease vector than unvaccinated kids crowded into classrooms all day who then go home to their families.
One might even imagine, a few years from now, an enemy nation conquering the US simply by introducing a new virus — or reintroducing an old one — and waiting …
I don’t want or trust politicians to dictate my health care, options, and decisions. Or anyone else’s. I want to hear from doctors and scientists, experts who spend their lives immersed in the world of science, health, and research. A crazy anti-vaxxer like Kennedy firing people at the CDC and doing away with immunizations is sci-fi fodder.
I sent letters to my reps in Washington. Again. That made me feel a little better. But only a little. (As I mentioned back in January, you can easily write to your senators and representatives in Washington at democracy.io.)

right.
There are enough videos on YouTube that I could pretty much watch the whole 3 hours. But I have a rule to not watch horror shows because they give me nightmares
Yikes! I just thought of polio. What happens to polio vaccine?
I heard polio was among the other vaccines mentioned, also endangered. It derives from the same meme that is motivating Florida to ban all mandatory vaccinations, essentially a distrust of authority. “What right,” he said, “do I have to tell you what to put in your body?” Uh, protection of Florida’s health?
I have to wonder what motivates RFK jr and others like him? I can understand getting a strange idea in your head, but having a strong desire to force it on others? Maybe it’s a form of confirmation bias, a need to reinforce your own idea? This stuff is what happens when we elect mental cases to power.
Anyway, there was a time when medical professionals spoke realistically of the possibility of eradicating polio from the planet, like smallpox. Now, thanks to RFK, the best we can hope for is to hope to keep it out of our country.
Most of these people are too young to remember when polio was sweeping the country, when newspapers featured photos of rooms full of patients in iron lungs. That alone, with the subsequent development of the polio vaccine, should be lesson enough for anyone. But there are always some who won’t believe anything until they see and/or experience it for themselves.
I was horrified when I heard the announcement about Florida. Some parents, for a few years, will continue to seek those vaccines for their children (assuming vaccines even remain available), but most, in a few years, will probably forget about it … unless an outbreak of some kind suddenly threatens their kids. And then it may be too late.
It figures RFK was eager to spread/implement his crazy ideas but hadn’t attracted much attention until Trump embraced and empowered him. Power is a heady, addicting drug for far too many people.
Meanwhile, as insanity reigns, I bounce from horror to anger to utter despair. Yesterday I abandoned any pretense of decorum in my note to Sen. Bennet (D-CO) and just said “Sic ’em, Senator.”
Oy vey.
I think he IS the worst and most dangerous, Colorado, because his power is a creeping, insidious one – just as you describe. The others’ badness can clearly be seen: this obsessed madman’s will come from behind to grab and destroy.
Even though he won’t get a second chance, he is creating a generation of people who don’t stand a chance.
And yet Congress, which includes a couple of medical doctors, approved his appointment. Is it any wonder I despair?
It is not. It has never been.
🙂 Appreciate the support!
I live in Florida and this is insane, but not surprising. It’s full of trumpers and conspiracy nuts and the governor is pandering to that cult. I’m sure all his family will have the vaccines. Just like trump had all the Covid vaccines.
I think bottom line is they are trying to thin out the population by any means available. And I bet the white kids who go to private schools will be vaccinated or it will be required there..
There was instant chaos here in Colorado. Several drugstore chains announced they would not be carrying vaccines at all. A few days later that changed to “some of our stores will have it (covid vax), but you’ll need a doctor’s prescription to get it.”
The latest I’ve heard is that the prescription requirement has been dropped, but I don’t know which stores and pharmacies will still be planning to do vaccinations. My covid and flu shots aren’t due until October, when I hope I’ll be able to go to the same pharmacy I’ve always used.
