No, this isn’t a photo from any of the professional photographers I’ve featured in the past. It’s a snapshot from my Boulder-based brother. He was on Colorado’s Peak-to-Peak highway early this afternoon and grabbed this shot a few miles north of Nederland. I thought the lighting was particularly fortuitous, thanks in large part to the clouds. They’re moving into the Denver metro now, 4 pm, and the local broadcasters are going a little nuts about the lightning, rain, and 6 pm Denver Broncos kick-off. We shall see …
If you’re in the area and want to see this color for yourself, you’ve only got a few more days. If that. And a sky like this is never guaranteed.

beautiful !
I’ve tried so often in the past and never came up with a shot like this. Maybe I didn’t include enough sky … or something
our phones really helped, they are able to really capture the essence of what we see
Yes that did occur to me, that his phone probably has a better camera than whatever I was using back in the day. Probably some little pocket camera or something.
The sky is always so important, eh, Colorado ? – even this shot he could have framed up a bit … Which doesn’t take anything away from its being a lovely, lovely image !!
Oh yes the lighting makes all the difference. A break in a stormy sky, just enough sun in just the right spot to highlight a grove of aspen … just as someone with a camera is passing by. And so often here in big sky country the sky itself is the center of attention.
