AI may someday run a lot of businesses without human employees, but it still has a lot to learn.
Anthropic’s AI, named Claudius, ran this vending machine for several weeks at the Wall Street Journal’s headquarters. And it failed miserably.
No doubt that will change. The rapid advance of AI technology has been both amazing and frightening, and at some point it may indeed take many American jobs.
For now, at least those who run vending machines can sleep well.

well….)
It whiffed the vending machine test. Amusing. But then again, what if it had been a really important task … You won’t find me in a Waymo, for example.

johnthecook…AI in the short term can be of some use and help, but make no mistake about it, it is being further developed to CONTROL us. It’s biggest drawback, a real live person developed it, so it’s garbage in, garbage out. BIG BROTHER is watching us!
GIGO has long been true in the age of computers. And although the good guys have been developing AI to do good stuff, criminals may have other ideas about how to use it.The fear is that nobody really knows how it will evolve, how to keep it from going off the rails, and the possibility that, as in the movies, it becomes self-aware. I don’t know enough about it to know if self-awareness is even possible IRL.
All advancing technology kills jobs. Just ask a blacksmith, but I expect AI will do a lot more harm than just taking jobs.
You’re preaching to the choir here, since I used to work in print publishing. Historically, a lot of new tehcnology created new jobs while killing old ones. I fear AI is going to kill a lot of jobs while creating very few new ones. As for what else AI might do, I can’t even imagine.
AI is neither artificial or intelligent
A tool…which will be misused by those who can
Buckle up – it’s going to a rough ride
True.
True.
Yep.
