Hu gets call from Bush as the world prays for Tibet
That was a cheer for George Bush, something you don’t see very often in Pied Type. BBC News is reporting that President Bush called China’s President Hu Jintao and “raised his concerns” about the protests and Chinese crackdown in Tibet.
If the situation in Tibet doesn’t improve, Bush should stay away from the Opening Ceremonies of the Beijing Olympics in August. That seems as unlikely as a complete U.S. boycott, but pressure on China is rising as the protests continue, and anything could happen.
The whole world is watching, Mr. Presidents (both of you). Our hearts are with the Tibetans and their leader, the Dalai Lama.
