By now you are probably aware that a total solar eclipse will occur on April 8. The path of totality does not include Colorado, but if you are willing to travel to Dallas or elsewhere, you can see it. No camping out in the boonies for this one.

The New York Times has published a good article about it. Another Times article includes a link to the American Astronomical Society with information on where to obtain certified eclipse-watching eye protection. (Don’t risk buying counterfeit gear.) This Times article shows what can happen if you don’t protect your eyes. Eyes come only two to a customer, so protect the ones you have.

OO-er ! There are STILL people who look at an eclipse directly ??
Words fail.
But thank-you, Colorado: I wasn’t aware of the 8th April one coming up. 🙂
I imagine most people know not to look directly at an eclipse. A more worrisome problem may be the widespread sale of counterfeit devices that actually offer no protection.
I put this eclipse on my calendar several years ago because it falls on my birthday. But I find now that I am decidedly unwilling to navigate airports and crowds for a 4-minute event. My Texas relatives can watch it for me.
