This is the cover art for Beyoncé’s new “Cowboy Carter” album. Ugh. A thousand times Ugh. This must have been created by some city slicker (or AI app) that has never been next to a saddled horse, never ridden a horse, never even watched a cowboy movie. Nobody sits a horse this way. It’s a side-saddle position, but that’s not a side saddle and even if it were, she’s facing backwards. And unless her butt is glued to the saddle, I’m not sure she could sit that way without sliding off (although come to think of it, that bare butt would probably stick to leather … )
It might be a good album. Maybe even great. And I’ve no problem with a pop star singing country western music, if that’s what she does. I don’t know and don’t care. I can’t get past this ridiculous picture. But then, maybe that’s the point — to attract attention and provoke discussion.
You’ll have to excuse me now. I’ve got to get this image off my screen …

It might be good, but I won’t be listening …
I won’t either.
Besides which, Colorado, the horse is a pacer, or a trotter: in harness racing the horses are driven by blokes sitting in two-wheeled carts called sulkies. A most uncomfortable ride, it would be – were she even remotely capable of staying on.
She’s probably never been on a horse in her life — not even this one. I call deep fake.
I think she was on a horse on another of her covers, or some promo campaign for a concert maybe. I read today that she wanted to make this album for a few years because she never really felt accepted in the county culture. interesting –
I don’t follow pop music at all but I certainly know her name. Whatever genre she wants to do is fine with me but I’ll admit I never thought of her as country western. Maybe Lil Nas X (sp?) opened the door for a lot of singers who’ve wanted to try something different. His “Old Town Road” was certainly a huge hit.
She or her publicist may love horses but it appears neither knows anything about riding.
yes, I’m guessing it’s totally for the effect, and I’m sure you’re right. my granddaughter is a fan and I’ll ask her what she thinks of the new album. I remember when Darius Rucker from hootie and the blowfish crossed over to country, but I’m sure it’s not an easy transition
I imagine singing a different style is relatively easy. The hard part is getting your fans to accept it (said the woman who rarely listens to music of any kind).
yes, the leap must be a huge challenge
” . . . to attract attention and provoke discussion.” It’s working.
It certainly is.
First time I ever saw her sing was at the Houston Rodeo on an outside stage when she was a little girl. Cute little thing belting out a song – and applauded by all sorts of p[eople in hats and boots….
But the image also bothers me – concept fine, but implemented badly – far too flat – she looks like a Barbie doll sticker stuck on a picture of a horse. Could have been done so much better
I’ve no issue whatsoever with her talent. It’s just that cover art that looks so bizarre. I like your description. It does look like a sticker stuck on a picture of a horse.
