Longtime readers of Pied Type may recall my two previous posts* about One River North, the bizarre new Denver apartment building with the canyon slicing through it. Well, it actually exists now and started leasing units earlier this year.
There have been a few local stories about it which you might or might not have read depending on your inclination to click on my links. Now, if you want to see photos, floor plans, and prices, you can click yet again for all the details. Fair warning: the prices left me gasping.
But hey, if you lease one of these units, let me know. I’ll come running, pathetic little house-warming gift in hand, for a tour of your new digs.
And no, I’ve yet to see this structure for myself, but my son grabbed a quick photo one day when he saw it from a nearby freeway. For my own peace of mind, I’m going to assume he was sitting still, stuck in traffic, when he shot this, rather than driving along at whatever speed was possible at the time. The building is directly below the tip of the visor:

I must confess I’m no longer in love with One River North. Maybe it’s the prices, or maybe it’s finally seeing it “in the flesh,” sort of, but I think I don’t even like it anymore. It’s an interesting concept, but it’s not pretty. I might even say it’s ugly. In any case I wouldn’t want to live that close to downtown Denver in a neighborhood (River North, aka RiNo) that I can’t imagine calling home.
I wonder how many units they’ve leased so far …
(June 19, 2024: I just found this article from April 2024. Lots of details, photos, etc. If you aren’t subscribed, it will probably keep blurring, but refreshing the page will clear it up. It didn’t blur on me the first time I read it.)

Those prices ? – they’re nuthin. Your RE people haven’t yet caught up with ours, money-grubbing developers and all.

Just saying.
Yikes. A person could choke on that. But fair’s fair; that’s a penthouse purchase price, not an apartment rental. I’m too lazy to do the conversion and then a breakdown on price per square foot, but I can tell it’s a wee bit out of my price range.
I wonder if the monthly rents include utilities? (I know, if I have to ask, I can’t afford it.)
I’m guessing utilities are not included, as is the norm around here. And you’re right, if you have to ask, you probably can’t afford it. Of course, I suppose that’s also true of the rent itself …
Feels like a shame that the notion of ‘housing’ has drifted so far from ‘home’….

Yep there’s certainly nothing homey about these prices.
