Unfortunately, security has been a valid concern of public figures for quite some time, and the situation has been getting steadily worse as partisan speakers try to influence their audiences. Provocative speech, especially in today’s heated political climate, can be dangerous.
Me too. Charley Kirk? Who? You would think he was some kind of saint, what with Vance carrying the casket and using Air Force 2 to transport it. We are living in the era of instant gratification by electronics where egos can instantly expand. I was just listening to Cash Patel extolling all the things each division of the FBI did in the Kirk case. The Trump administration seems uniformly infested with braggadocio.
Certainly no saint. Read some of his quotes. The very name of his tour was provocative: “Prove Me Wrong.” I guess I’d never heard of him because I ignore that kind of right-wing vitriol.
And to think that 24 years ago today, I’d never seen the nation more united …
Also very unnerving. Yesterday, in addition to the Kirk shooting, there was a shooting at Evergreen (Colo) High School, just 20 miles from Columbine HS and 40 miles from here. And today there was an anonymous shooting threat at NYU, where my granddaughter is.
I fear that more divisions are being sowed across the country, and I think each of us needs to do what we can to sow fellowship.
