Please read “May you live in interesting times” where a Twin Cities resident contemplates history and life in his hometown with ICE agents roaming the streets. He and his family now carry their passports whenever they go out.
He notes:
During the Holocaust, the biggest question for sociologists and historians has been how the everyday person saw what was going on and at worst supported and enabled it, or at best enabled it by staying silent.
What I hadn’t heard about until he mentioned it is a planned statewide strike Friday, January 23, in Minnesota. Major news outlets confirm that Friday will be a “Day of Truth and Freedom” in Minnesota. Faith leaders, union reps, and community members are urging no work, no school, no shopping. A massive display of passive resistance.
I’m thinking a nationwide strike would be a great show of support and unity for Minneapolis, for Minnesota, and for ICE protesters across the country. Surely we could muster simple walk-outs and no-shows …

My pleasure. I thought this was one of his most thoughtful posts.
I entirely agree, and have been saying as much in Bluesky (yes, I’m back: I have a real need of the constant news updating) for weeks. A General Strike is exactly the kind of thing that would leave the “administration” with nowhere to go.
Bluesky and Substack are good for opinion pieces. For straight news I generally rely on The New York Times, The Guardian, Associated Press, Reuters, BBC. And now I guess I have to track you down on Bluesky again. You’re welcome to add your URL …
