Today in Minnesota, to protest Trump’s Operation Metro Surge and the killing of Renee Good, residents across the state will boycott work, school, and shopping. The action is supported by labor unions, religious and community leaders, and businesses of all kinds. A peaceful march and rally is scheduled to start in Minneapolis at 2 pm CST, although brutally cold weather is predicted.
A growing list of businesses that will be closed for the day can be found at Bring Me The News. Many of them are giving their employees a paid day off.

We are supporting them here in Ann Arbor with a variety of events- you are right it could be all of us
Figures the weather wouldn’t deter stout-hearted, determined Minnesotans. I’ve not heard of about anything supportive being done here in Colorado, but I’m not exactly in the loop for active demonstrations. Minn. deserves nationwide support!
I think each state has some actions going on and we don’t always hear about them – yes, minnesotans are a model in resilience
You northerners are a tough breed.
Yes, I saw where 50501, the No Kings organizers, had several different things planned this week. They are always organizing something.
I watched a story about ICE taking a 5-year old into custody this morning. It put a human face on the immigration dilemma for me and reminded me of a William Blake poem:
Cruelty has a Human Heart
And Jealousy a Human Face
Terror the Human Form Divine
And Secrecy, the Human Dress
The Human Dress, is forged Iron
The Human Form, a fiery Forge.
The Human Face, a Furnace seal’d
The Human Heart, its hungry Gorge.
So many conflicting reports about everything, even when I stick to respected mainstream sources. I heard one report that said ICE took the little boy because having grabbed the boy’s father, there was no one to leave him with. I dunno. I wish doom-scrolling was still just a name for browsing social networks rather than an accurate description of checking the daily news.
No, Colorado: turns out there WAS a relative there who begged for the child, but they took him anyway. Vance lies through his teeth, always.
Following this day on Bluesky, and the General Strike is a roaring success !!
Saw some photos of the crowds and was amazed at the turnout, given the weather. But then, Minnesotans are more used to severe winter weather than I’ve ever been. And they are justifiably pissed at what’s been happening there.
Saw one “reassuring” (not) report that the boy is safe … with his dad in prison.
