“For What It’s Worth” by Buffalo Springfield, 1967
The song is 53 years old! That’s older than most of today’s demonstrators. Maybe, just maybe, this time will be different. Maybe this will be the time when meaningful change finally comes about. Maybe.
“I can not be an optimist but I am a prisoner of hope.”
~ Cornel West
Ha, I am 53. Last Saturday in D.C. was great! I hope it is the beginning of real change. I think people are pretty fed up, and there have already been so many actions to come of it, from various police departments doing away with chokeholds, to proposed legislation, to taking down Confederate monuments. The trick is to keep the same energy and momentum, even as COVID-19 drags on and we see another wave or two.
I’m 77 and was really wishing I could drag my tired old bod to one of the peaceful rallies. Something feels different this time and I’d love to be a part of it.
Oh man, I’d been wondering what the title of this song was for ages–I was weaned on classic rock.
Always liked it. Now I really wanna learn how to play it on guitar (or bass)
I graduated in the Sixties and rock was everything (mixed with some folk). And yet I never knew the correct name of this song. I had to find it by searching for some of the lyrics I remembered. Good luck with the guitar.
History repeats itself. It was written during different protests, but still fighting for rights. Love that song.
Amazing, and yet so sad, that it’s still relevant today.
I know. Horrible.
