This is not a review of the movie A House of Dynamite, now showing on Netflix. And lest you worry, there are no spoilers here.
Before I even fired up the movie, I was thinking it’s a lousy, utterly forgettable title. I can’t say why; I just know it leaves me unimpressed. Yes, the movie is about the potential for nuclear war (or “global thermonuclear war” if you recall WarGames) and the title is a quote from the movie but … meh.
(Oh damn, I guess that was a spoiler. Sorry ’bout that.)
My problem throughout was I couldn’t stop thinking that in the real world, Donald Trump is our president and, heaven help us, Pete Hegseth is our Secretary of Defense or War or whatever. Throughout the movie, Trump and Hegseth were present.
So yes, the movie succeeds in being thought-provoking, but perhaps not in the way the producers intended. They wanted viewers to contemplate the potential for WWIII. And I did — with Pres. Trump and SecDef Hegseth calling the shots. Ugh.
So much for escapism.

I had much the same reaction. Bad movie but a plausible plot. Also junior military characters played unrealistic roles. But, don’t worry, the ballroom is getting built.
Whew, thank goodness! And what about the Epstein files? Any word on that?
