I’ve been a bit distracted, not to mention burned out on politics, since the end of the Republicans’ little soiree in St. Paul Thursday night. Still am, actually, but wanted to get in a few parting shots before I forget:
What the hell happened to Cindy McCain’s hair? That mess looked more like her Thursday morning bed head than a “do” for hubby’s big night. Actually, not even that good. It looked like it had been in her severe, heavily sprayed up style and then hastily taken down (without a comb-out) just before she walked on stage. If it was the work of some highly paid stylist, said stylist is toast.
Ditto Sarah Palin’s stylist. The school marm look won’t cut it. Cut it. The hair, that is. Both women’s hair. Both need makeovers in the worst way, starting with shorter, more professional haircuts. Cindy wore a very attractive, much shorter style when she was doing some of her overseas charity work and she should go back to it. Sarah just needs help, lots of help.
Both of them may be guilty of that I-wear-it-long-cuz-my-man-likes-it-that-way thing, but it’s inappropriate and unattractive for women of their status. Visibility. Position. Age. Take your pick.

As for Cindy’s loving description of how she and John met, fell in love, and married — Gag!! He was married when he introduced himself to her and they began dating. He was cheating on his first wife when he put the moves on a very pretty, very rich, much younger Cindy. The details have been very widely and very publicly documented. I don’t know when he owned up and confessed to her, but the whole thing was a scandal. Yes, John McCain is a man of honor, a straight talker. In public. Maybe. Or only when it’s convenient. I don’t know. Do you?

And how ’bout that stagecraft? A huge video screen with the bottom corners cut out (the speakers couldn’t have walked around the screen?). During the day, most of the time, the screen showed nothing but a single, lonely American flag — a really bad still shot at that. No framing, no trees in the foreground, nothing. Come on, they couldn’t have filled the screen with waving stars and stripes? You know, just a plain, old-fashioned screensaver kind of thing.
The stage itself was utterly, completely, totally bare. Was that a nod to austerity or something? No footlights, no railing or curb, not even a couple of fake plants. It needed something. Anything.
As for the camera work that had McCain speaking in front of a solid green screen (actually a green lawn) or some of the other speakers in front of a nice solid (Communist) red screen (actually part of a full-screen U.S. flag), the MSM have had a romp with that.

No doubt I still have other snide, catty thoughts lurking somewhere, but it’s late.
Oops, I forgot to mention how pathetic and dominated McCain looks now, standing obediently three feet behind Palin when she’s speaking. It makes him look even worse than when he’s the speaker.
