There was another school shooting today. This time it was at Arapahoe High School in Centennial, Colorado. One student was critically wounded and the shooter died of a self-inflicted wound.
From CNN today:
Arapahoe happened one day before the anniversary of the Newtown, Connecticut, school shooting. It occurred within 17 miles of two other infamous Colorado gun rampages—the Aurora movie theater shooting and Columbine High.
From Bob Dylan in 1962:
Yes, how many ears must one man have
Before he can hear people cry?
Yes, how many deaths will it take till he knows
That too many people have died?
The answer my friend is blowin’ in the wind
The answer is blowin’ in the wind.

Blowing in the wind has been an earworm since… 1962. Just as applicable today as it was then.
Conservatives be sayin’ “Damn, them hippies were right all along…”
Yes, it sticks with me too. This evening I can’t get it out of my head.
And yes, the hippies were right about a lot of things.
It’s simultaneously heartbreaking and enraging. When I hear of things like this, I cry the tears of impotence, because it seems the gun situation in our country is beyond repair.
I’ve vacillated this evening between tears and wanting to throw things. The helplessness and fury is absolutely suffocating.
Heartbreaking, PT.
NRA has too much power. Sadly, I do not foresee an end to this. And last year, the pro-gunners were arguing that it is the illegal gun sales that kill people. They’ve rather shut up about that now as nearly all, if not all, of the guns used in most of these shootings were legally purchased.
I now hate the things, and I grew up with them and used to carry a .38 handgun. Now I don’t think anyone other than police and military, and perhaps a few other special circumstances, should be able to own and carry a firearm of any kind. Only hunting rifles to be allowed and legal. And no high capacity-type rifle. Just the standard rounds of no more than 6.
Not only do I not see an end to all this, I think it’s getting worse. NRA-backed organizers engineered recall elections for two Colorado legislators that managed to get some gun control laws passed and intimidated a third into quitting, and most of our sheriffs are saying they won’t enforce the laws.
