Pied Type to appear on Freshly Pressed

Just found this email from the WordPress folks in my inbox:

Congrats! We’ve picked your post ( http://piedtype.com/2012/08/11/grandma-gets-a-smartphone/ ) to appear on Freshly Pressed on the WordPress home page.

We really enjoyed your take on this smartphone buying experience — a mix of practical information but also some lightheartedness and humor, and we know the rest of the WordPress community will too. Your post will appear on the site in the next day or two, so get ready to welcome your new readers.

Once your post goes live, shout it from the rooftops! Tell your family, friends, and readers to check out the WordPress home page, and share the good news with your social networks (we’ll do the same).

This is guaranteed to increase my lurking on Freshly Pressed. I want a screenshot while it’s there! Hope some of my readers will also grab screenshots to back me up in case I miss it.

  1. Congratulations on your “Freshly Pressed” feature! My blog was just up on the WordPress home page yesterday, and you stopped by (to read my Jonah Lehrer essay). You mentioned that you had just written about Fareed Zakaria, so today I came here to read your post. I really admire your writing and will be visiting regularly!

    1. Thx. I really enjoyed your article, especially knowing you’d written a paper on the subject in the past. I’m totally perplexed about notables like Lehrer and Zakaria resorting to plagiarism when they’ve so little to gain and so much to lose. A lifetime’s reputation gone with one or two lazy paragraphs? Why? But as you noted, they probably won’t be gone forever. The public (and the industry) is much too forgiving of such things. My old J-school probably doesn’t even require an Ethics of Journalism class anymore. Sad.

... and that's my two cents
