The most romantic gift I ever received
Okay, I’ve done my “Bah, Cupid” bit for Valentine’s Day. But it got me thinking about the past, when romance, or potential romance, was still a part of my life. And I remembered, as I occasionally do, what still ranks as the most thoughtful, romantic gift I ever received.
I had a male acquaintance that I was growing very fond of but, being very gun shy about romance and commitment, I’d forbidden him to use the “L-word.” So one day, out of the blue (which is so much more delightful than an anticipated gift on, say, Valentine’s Day), he showed up at my office bearing a dozen gorgeous roses. Not red ones. Certainly not. Red roses mean “love.” These were spectacular yellow roses, with red edges. Yellow for “friendship,” but kissed with red.
I fell so hard for that man …
