I just discovered that my favorite webcam, the TundraCam, is back! (It was damaged last winter and was offline all summer.) For those who don’t follow my webcam obsession, this is by far the best one. It is both live streaming and fully controllable by the viewer. You can pan around, up and down, zoom in and out, watch wildlife, hikers, clouds, incoming weather, etc.

Detailed instructions are on the TundraCam website, right under the camera view. Basically, you click the play button, then “control” in the lower right corner. Move the camera by sliding the dots along the sides and top. Left side is up/down, top is right/left, and right side is zoom. The response will be quite slow, so be patient. Your time allotment will only be about 90 seconds, but if no one else is waiting, you can continue/reconnect.
Bear in mind that the camera may be in use by others (the control button will be yellow and may display a name) and you’ll have to wait for access.
The camera is located on Niwot Ridge, 17 miles west of Boulder, Colorado, at an elevation of 11,600 feet. It is owned and operated by the University of Colorado and used by several groups on campus. The area immediately around it is dotted with a variety of research instruments and installations.
In prior posts I’ve noted how and where you can see Pikes Peak, 100 miles to the south, and Longs Peak and Mt. Meeker to the north. Here’s Pikes Peak:

I’ve written several times about the TundraCam (the first was back in 2008):

All of us mountain lovers can rejoice!
Oh I am! Have been all day!
yayyyy!
I’m so excited about this!
Whenever I see images like these that you post, not only am I seized with jealous rage that anyone can live so close to such wonderful mountains, but I am reminded of your huge enthusiasm for your (now) State and why I have decided you are ‘Colorado’ …
I’ve been Colorado from the day I first saw these mountains. Maybe age 5 or 6. Took me about 65 years to finally get here permanently, but obviously you see the attraction. 🙂
