Update: Republican incumbent Norm Coleman has conceded the Minnesota Senate race to Democrat Al Franken.
The Minnesota Supreme Court has finally brought an end to the state’s senate race and declared Democrat Al Franken the winner.
That would give the Dems a supposedly filibuster-proof majority in the U.S. Senate, if Republican Governor Tim Pawlenty signs the election certificate and Republican incumbent Norm Coleman doesn’t appeal his case to the U.S. Supreme Court.
Please, can’t we just have an end to the interminable 2008 election cycle? Let’s just make a new law saying if a state doesn’t settle its senate race by, say, December 31, they forfeit that senate seat. After all, Minnesota and Washington have gotten along just fine for the last six months.

This could be very bad news for the Democrats. Now that they have gotten absolute control of Congress, they will have to deliver on their promises. But congressional Democrats generally don’t adhere to their promises very well. They will be Pres. Obama’s greatest obstacle.
